Sodding

Sodding refers to the installation and/or replacement of residential or commercial lawns. At Instant Lawns, we specialize in the replacement of damaged lawns in a quick and efficient manner. We can often have the job done in a single afternoon, along with any other aesthetic landscaping choices you’ve made for your perfect new yard.

It is very important to select the appropriate grade and quality of sod, topsoil, and the methods used to install it. Premium screened topsoil should be used as a minimum to ensure that there are enough nutrients in the soil to allow for proper sod growth in the critical first three weeks for the sod to take root in your lawn. Next, there are many, many variety of sod to choose from. Typically, the Ottawa region requires Kentucky blue fescue due to its cold resistance, lush color, and its hearty ability to withstand just about anything Canadian weather has to throw at it.

Instant Lawns uses only the finest Kentucky bluegrass fescue from Manderly Sod Farms, which is grown on mineral soil to give it a perfect pH balance for the screened premium topsoil we use. If you match the wrong sod for the area or for the wrong type of topsoil, the sod may not take hold properly and you’d end up replacing it. Sodding a brand new lawn is something that a homeowner could undertake themselves, and it would take approximately 1 hour for every 400 square feet of lawn, not including transport time and cleanup. Resodding, however, is a whole other ball game so to speak.

Resodding refers to the removal and replacement of an existing, highly damaged lawn with all new topsoil and sod. As mentioned before, it’s important to get the right type and combination of soil and sod for your area. The hardest part of resodding is ‘how on earth do you get rid of the old lawn?’ Trying to do this yourself is very laborious work and can often lead to injuries and requires the rental of a dump truck, a sod cutter, and a few friends to help out. By the time you are finished with it, the cost and time used in doing so might not be the best use of your resources. Instant Lawns has highly specialized (and very expensive) equipment that makes these tasks a breeze, and ensures that your lawn is done on time and on-budget.
